The patches can be applied according to the following guidelines: - The patch for ESX Server 2.0.1: o Can be applied to 2.0 and 2.0.1 systems o Will upgrade ESX Server to 2.0.1 and patch the system - The patch for ESX Server 2.1.2: o Can be applied to 2.1, 2.1.1, and 2.1.2 systems o Will upgrade ESX Server to 2.1.2 and patch the system - The patch for ESX Server 2.5: o Can be applied to 2.5 systems to patch the system To obtain the download, please follow the link corresponding to the ESX Server version you would like to patch. 2.5 - http://www.vmware.com/download/esx/esx-250-200502-patch.html 2.1.2 - http://www.vmware.com/download/esx/esx-212-200502-patch.html 2.0.1 - http://www.vmware.com/download/esx/esx-201-200502-patch.html The patches are cumulative and contain all bug fixes from previous patches. In addition, there are five new fixes being introduced. All five are briefly described here in this mail. Please note that not all bugs are present in each version of ESX Server, so the three patches contain only the necessary subset of this list of fixes. The list of bugs that are fixed in each patch is detailed in the download page for each patch (see links above). Here are the fixes, some general information about each fix and the links to the VMware knowledge base articles that contain the details for each. Tools memory leak fix - This was originally released as a hotfix but is now rolled into the current patch. The VMware tools previously contained a memory leak. The new tools, once installed in the VM, eliminate that memory leak. Please note that the original hotfix is no longer available now that this complete patch is posted. http://www.vmware.com/support/kb/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1549 HP Insight Management Agents 7.1.2 - Due to a bug in ESX Server 2.5, for some HW configurations, HP Insight Management Agents 7.1.2 can hang the Service Console periodically for 4 minutes and 20 seconds. This fix eliminates that hang. It is anticipated that this fix will also protect HP Insight Management Agents 7.2 from the same issue. The KB will be updated regarding 7.2 when the testing is completed. http://www.vmware.com/support/kb/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1575 CPU & bus speed - This bug causes CPU speed to be reported incorrectly on some systems. http://www.vmware.com/support/kb/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1583 BFS scripted install fix - This bug caused the default kickstart file to tell scripted install to remove the partition tables of all LUNs attached to an ESX Server that is configured boot from SAN. This is corrected in the patch, so you can use the default kickstart file to safely install ESX Servers that are configured to boot from the SAN via the scripted installation. http://www.vmware.com/support/kb/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1540 FSC storage configuration - This fix allows FSC's SAN configuration tool to operate correctly via agents running in the Service Console. This fix is included with 2.1.2, but has not yet been implemented for ESX Server 2.5. http://www.vmware.com/support/kb/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1584 Please do not hesitate to contact VMware with any questions Best regards, The VMware ESX Server Team VMware, Inc. 3145 Porter Drive Palo Alto CA 94304 USA Tel 650-475-5000 Copyright © 2005 VMware, Inc.
