Tim,

You can confirm that the Nic is seen and working properly 1st.

ssh to the COS (esx console OS) or logon the console itself (ALT-F2)
Then type:
        ifconfig

You will see the Service console Nic, the Local Loopback and then any
VMnics.

Then find the name of the VMnic and type:
        cd /proc/vmware/net/VMNICNAME

Then type:
        cat config

You should see something like this:
[root@esx3 vmnic1]# cat config
VLanHwTxAccel Yes
VLanHwRxAccel Yes
VLanSwTagging Yes
PromiscuousAllowed No
InterruptClustering No
Link state: Up
Speed: 1000 Mbps, full duplex
Queue: Running
PCI (bus:slot.func): 4:8.0
Minimum Capabilities 0x0
Device Capabilities 0x74b
Maximum Capabilities 0x76b
NICTeaming No

Interrupt vector 0x99
DebugSocket Closed

If all looks good, then make sure the VM is using that specific NIC
under the Hardware TAB in the MUI.

Then confirm if the Nic is set at VLANCE that you are using the AMD
PCNET driver in Windows or if the Nic is set to VMXNET that you are
using the VMWARE PCI ETHERNET ADAPTER.

Also, under the HARDWARE tab on the VM, double check the NIC name and
then make sure it says CONNECTED and CONNET AT POWER ON!

Hey Tim,
So what port group is being used on that new card?
What is the speed/duplex and can you lock down those
settings on your switch? -George
