OK John of course not, you do not travel to England at all. The Open University however in Ireland mainly operates from Belfast though they do have an office in Dublin. Look up Open University in the Dublin directory and let them direct you from there. Enrolling with the Open University in dublin, a European country does indeed bring its problems, that of cost. I know someone whom I think might be on this list who has studied with the Open University and who lives in Dublin. cannot imagine she would have a problem with you knowing her name. In the UK where one does not have a Primary Degree one gets Government funding. Another thing is that where one's income is such that they cannot afford the costs, gain there is funding. However, I do not know what funding for the Open University is like in Ireland or whether a person with a disability would beceive favourable funding to provide a means of education. I would give the Open University in Dublin a call. They provide excellent support for disabled students in the UK so one presumes in Ireland they would provide same. As a disabled student, blind, using my own computer equipment etc, I sit all my exams in my own home. An Invigilator is sent to me to ensure that I do not cheat etc and of course to take away my work at the end and send it in to the Open University. All in all, very positive John.

Hi John, not Jackie but the Open University are very good and run computer courses too. It is all distance learning and they cater very well for blind

Dear Eleanor,

Thanks for that. But don't you have to travel to England every few
months to do exams or something? That would be a stumbling block for
me. And how about cost? But I'm not ruling out the OU just yet. I'd
like to find out more. Can you suggest where I should start
researching? I'll let you know how I get on,

yours,
John.
