Hi Tom,

I wouldn't disable it entirely. It is there to protect the user from picking up malware and other nasty creatures. there is a setting to warn you if pop-ups are being blocked, and to let internet Explorer decide which pop-ups should be blocked, in Tools - Options - etc. that's fine for home use, most of the time. If you're in the workplace, however, you may not have control over how these things are set up, for reasons of security.

If you do get a warning that a pop-up is being blocked, press alt+n at that point to bring up the Information bar; then you could press spacebar to activate it, and arrow down the list of options, or press the right-mouse key [NumpadStar] or the Applications key, and then arrow down the list of options, perhaps entering on 'allow.
