Hi Jackie,

When you go into the settings, look for a link to "Forwarding and pop". Go
in here and  set your mail to "enable pop radio button". Next go down the
page further to a "combo box" and set it to the following option: When
messages ae accessed using pop, "Delete GMails copy". Once you have this
done, go to the save button and press the spacebar.
Now download all your messages to your computer and the copies should be
automatically deleted on the Gmail site as will be the case I the future.

Hey Paul

I had a look in the google settings in the HTML and I can not find a setting

that  says about keeping messages on the server.

there is over 4000 emails up there so really need to delete allot
