mary,

you are using Outlook Express, right? It's always important to say what
email program you're using if you are having email-related problems.

From the message list, go into Tools | Options, with ctrl+shift+o; Then
press
shift-tab, and then right-arrrow to the Send tab control. now press the
tab key, and in the dialogue there check the 3rd and the 4th checkboxes you 
tab to - by
pressing spacebar on each of them.

Thank you for your suggestion, but unfortunatly it doesn't work.
There now seems to be another problem.  I tried to simply do reply but
that wouldn't work either.
