Good luck.

I too did E.c.d.l course last year. Glad I did it but not impressed with premises and computer. Staff brilliant and I learnt lots and even managed to get cert.

Hi John I am currently on the ECDL course and have to say I find it
brilliant, I think the disaplin they mean is you have to do your 30hrs a
week and what you put in you will get out. Im finished in March and feel
confident to work in radio. students decide what work area they would like to work in and the Network guides you in the right direction. Im with N.L.N

Dear Aine,

Thanks to you (and everyone else) for your feedback. I've tried to
take it all on board. I've even remembered to change the subject line
as Paul requested.

Unlike Aine, I did not have a good experience with the NLN. At my
interview, they grilled me for 90 minutes. No aspect of my life went
unprobed. At the end, I felt like asking: "Can I get dressed now?"

The person I would have been working with was a frustrated drill
sargeant. She was banging on about discipline and quoting rules and
regulations. She told me she was going to be round to my house once a
week and that I couldn't have the computerin my bedroom.

And then she dropped the M word. Yes, I had to attend meetings two
or three times a month. I hate meetings. They're a complete waste of
time. Also, I tend to literally fall asleep during meetings because
I'm so bored (and I have hypohaemia). I tried to explain how
difficult it would be for me to arrange transport in order for me to
be able to attend but it didn't cut much ice.

In the end, I was left with the impression (rightly or wrongly) they
were going to micromanage me and it would be more of a strait-jacket
than a course. So I asked on this list for ideas/suggestions and
Jackie's approach seemed like the best way forward for me. I spoke to
my contact in FAS and she's putting the wheels in motion. Wish me
luck,

yours,
John.
