[vip_students] Re: cobolt systems

MessageHi Aedan,
Thanks very much for call tonight and I will keep you posted on progress.
Thomas, my son whom you spoke to is an engineer, and has just returned after 10
years in London to take up a job here, so hopefully, I have the right man to
sort this out(smile).
Best regards,
Noreen

    Hi Aedan,
So much going on I am only now starting to follow up on the phone. My son
Thomas would like to talk to you about the phone and if it suits you either
tomorrow or Thursday night we could call you. If this is ok you might mail me
your phone number and a suitable time that suits you. Anytime after 8pm would
be best for Thomas, just in case he is late in from work. My number is 063
89558 if you would prefer to phone as you suggested.
    Kind regards,
    Noreen

      Hi Noreen,
I am sorry for delay in replying, I was away for the last weekend. The
model number of my home phone system is
      BT FREEDLAND XA 500.

I hope this is still on the market. It has a screen as well but all the
function buttons announce their settings with a female voice. I have an older
unit at work that is a single receiver but it has the same voice mail box that
beeps when a message is left on it. This is essential for me as I originally
had a tape answering machine that only blinked a light when a message was
awaiting. The volume of the beep can be easily adjusted and it can be turned
off as well. It disappears automatically after you have listened to the
message.
I can carry out all the functions on this system without sighted help.
The date and time are lost if the power is cut. It is a simple matter to
re-instate these again.
If you give me your phone number, by direct email if you wish, I could
demo this to you.
      Regards
      Aedan.

        Hi Aidan,
Still hunting for a suitable phone.
Does your cordless BT phone have a screen as well as builtin speech?
Enquiring in Argus about BT phones I was told a person would have to see screen
to use these phones and catalogue does not mention anything about speech on
any of the phones listed. All the BT phones have screens.
        Kind regards,
        Noreen

Hi Noreen, Sorry for delay in rreplying. I don't know about the BT
phones now in stock but the original cordless we had had the voice on the base
unit. I assume all BT stuff probably has this feature. The unit I have now has
4 cordless handsets and a base unit that is very small and futureistic. It
gives great coverage all over the house and it is digital. Handsets are very
small, like a mobile phone. It can also be used as a internal system and you
can call up any of the four and pass incoming calls around, very handy. Fine on
bump ons. I must look that up. I use them like you on dishwasher, and washing
machine. I retire next year and I assume there will be some role reversal and I
will become a househusband!.
          Regards
          Aedan.

            Hi Aedan,
Also the talking kitchen scales should be added to the list , and
not forgetting bumpons. I use bumpons on cookers, washing machine, dishwasher
and microwave (mine is not a talking one) and even for the different settings
on thermostat on radiators. A selection of different size, shape and colour
bumpons are now free from NCBI shop.
By the way Aedan, do you know details of cordless BT phone from
Argus that you mention? Checking their catalogue does not give you any
information about built in speech etc., on the different phones listed.
            Kind regards,
            Noreen

              Hi Susan,
I have many gadgets from cobal including a talking 10 ft steel
rule that can read in inches or mms at a press of a button: i have atalking
thermomater that is very accurate for use on yourself or children. I have a
talking indoor/outdoor talking thermometer for the weather. I actually hav
three of these as I have one in the house and one in my radio shack and one in
my holiday home. I also have a talking bathroom scales all from Cobal, which I
ordered through Breda Dowlihng in NCBI.
Another must-have is a talking colour detector, again very
reasonably priced for what it does and apart from telling you the colour of the
clothes you wear to four degrees of shade, it can also with suitabel care, read
the colour of electric wires for the likes of us D I Y fanatics!
I have found that most of the BT phones of any type including
cordless from Argus all have built in speech that announces every function and
perfectly usable by a totally blind person like me. I particularly like the
beep it gives if a voice message is left. Very handy indeed.
Lastly, the gadget to measure your paper money is invaluable and
cheap enough.
              Regards to all,
              Aedan O'Meara.

                hi folk,

here is the limk for cobolt systems the organisation that i get
my talking timers from.

                http://www.cobolt.co.uk/

cobolt also do talking watches, clocks and much much more, i
actually prefer there items as the speech is much clearer than those from the
rnib.
                best wishes

                susan
