[vip_students] Re: Very Sick Netbook

Hi Eleanor,

An external CD reader/writer is a unit just like a CD drive which comes
already built into your normal laptop or PC and nothing more complicated
than this except that netbooks don't have a cd drive built into them you
have to get something like a USB CD drive to supplement this so that you can
then use software CD's such as the windows XP CD which you'll need in order
to re-install windows XP onto this little netbook.
First off you'll need to back up the files and other items you may have on
that computer such as your documents, pictures etc. Also, you will need to
consider the applications you have installed on it, do you have the
application installation files backed up somewhere perhaps on this computer
also, if so then you need to move them onto your removable external hard
drive you mentioned you have.
What about emails, contact list and so on, this also needs to be backed up.
If you can fulfil the above objectives then we can proceed to whats required
next.

Just one more thing to consider, installing windows will require sighted
help, if this isn't available then we have a problem already.

Paul.

Paul
That sounds like a mamoth task for a novice *smile*. For starters I have an

external USB Terabite drive! and that is as far as I understand in your
e-mail. Now how wuld that drive assist me? Perhaps if you are kind enough
to give me some instructions and explanations it might be best to do so off
list as this issue is probably not of interest to list members. I go along
with your assessment entirely but it is a super little netbook and like my
best friend. I have it either 2 or 3 years now and cannot be parted from
it. Goes with me everywhere on my travels.
