Another thought just struck me before I hit the kitchen with a vengeance
is
that should it be an ordinary phone or extension then that should work out
but if it is a switchboard then there could be compatibility problems and
all that!
Should it be a switchboard you refer then perhaps some sort of list such
as
PC Audio may be better placed to assist further.

My other thought was, something along the lines of Skype or a Skype
handset;
but I suppose the IT and security people might be anxious about rerouting
calls to be on a Skype device, etc. Anyway, those are a few ideas.
