Hi All,
I occasionally come across certain songs from the eighties that I liked
to
listen to and wished I could keep for future listening pleasure. I find
Youtube is a great site for finding such nice tunes and recently I came
across a great free piece of software that will convert Youtube songs
into
MP3 format for you to keep. I thought I'd take a look at it and found it
quite user friendly with jaws so now I am hoping to write up the
following
tutorial that it may be useful to some of you out there.
First of all I will include the download link below and then write up the
tutorial beneath it.
The software is called; DVD Video soft Free Youtube to MP3 and this also
includes Free Youtube to IPod.
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/download/FreeYouTubeToMp3Converter.exe
First of all using the link above download the file. It's not too large
and
should come down pretty quickly with a broadband connection.
The next step is to install the software. Again this is a pretty straight
forward procedure and if any of you need help, just give me a call and I
will be glad to assist.
Now let's move on to first of all, How we obtain our information from
Youtube.
Important: If after following the instructions below you can't get music
or
sound to come from the Youtube website, it would suggest to me that you
need
to install the flash player 10. I will include here a link to download
this
player which you download and install in order to get sound from Youtube
sites.
Here is the flash player link.

(Beginning of tutorial)
1. Go onto the Youtube website at the following address: www.youtube.com
2. Here we have a page pretty much like the Google website with an edit
box
for typing in our searches.
2. Jaws users, press the letter "E" to jump into the edit box and press
the
enter key to turn on forms mode.
3. Type in something like a song you might wish to hear and later
download,
for this exercise I will search for something like "the rose westlife"
4. Once I have typed in my search query, I then hit the enter key and
wait a
few moments.
5. I now use the jaws navigation key "letter N" to jump to the part of
the
resulting page which is the beginning of my results for the search query.
Here is what my page of results looks like:
Note: I have slimmed down the results below as I just want to give you a
small idea as to what your search page results should look like:

6. Now that I have my results I have gone through the links and I have
indicated above which one I have chosen.
7. In order to get to the information I require prior to downloading and
converting the music into MP3 I need to actually go into the page and get
the song up and running on the Youtube site. I will hit the enter key on
the
link that gives me the live version of the song.
8. Once the song begins to play on the computer, we are ready to grab the
information we require to insert into the Free Youtube to MP3 software.
To
get this information, press keys "left alt + D" to jump into the address
bar
of internet explorer. You may find that it is difficult to hear what jaws
is
saying as the music is playing but with a bit of practice you will learn
to
do it automatically. Once in the address box, press the "home key on your
keyboard and now press the "Shift + end keys" to select the address of
the
current page that is up and playing.
Note: It is this address we need to insert into the free Youtube to MP3
software which will allow us to download the song and convert it.
Here is the web address I grabbed for the song I want to download and
convert:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P10cBbetrA
Your web addresses should look similar.
Now you can close up Youtube and move into the Free Youtube to MP3
converter
software.
(Part 2)
1. If you have already installed the software, go ahead and open up the
start menu then go into programs and arrow down to "DVD Video Soft".
2. Right arrow in here and right arrow again into programs. Now down
arrow
till you come to "Youtube to MP3" and press enter.
3. Now you will be presented with the converters interface, let's go
through
it here and see what we have.
[Free YouTube to MP3 Converter 3.5.1]
*. Input URLs:
(The rose westlife)
In the first box is where your web page with the name of the particular
song
you wish to download will be placed. In order to paste in here you can't
simply do the usual control + V, instead you have to tab over once to the
"paste" button which is the next button we look at.
*. Paste
Here is the paste button and this is how you enter in your web page you
copied earlier from Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P10cBbetrA)
by
using the spacebar on this button.
*. Remove
The remove button is as it indicates. This will remove any previous or
current searches you have pasted in earlier from the combo box.
*. Tags...
The tags button is where you can go into if you wish to enter meaningful
labels for the song you are about to download and convert. Tags are
mostly
used in windows vista as ways of obtaining more faster and accurate
search
results. You can skip this if you wish.
*. Output folder:
(C:\Users\paul\Documents\DVDVideoSoft\FreeYouTubeToMP3Converter)
The output folder is where the song will reside after it has been
downloaded
and converted. Notice where it is pointing to on my computer. It is going
to
place the finished song into my documents\DVD Video Soft\Free Youtube2MP3
folder.
*. Browse...
Should you wish to place the finished song into another folder then hit
the
spacebar on the browse button above and make your selection.
*. Output Name button.
The Output name button will bring you into a new section where you can
give
the file you are going to download and convert a new title and also maybe
give the song the name of the singer etc. When you have finished entering
these details tab to the ok button and hit the spacebar, you will be
returned to the screen you were previously in where you can tab on to
another control.
*. Presets:
(MP3 - Normal Quality Audio (128 Kbps, Stereo))
The presets you can choose what kind of quality you wish to give your
song
as its being downloaded using this combo list box. You can experiment
with
this if you like.
*. Options button.
I haven't gone in here for any reason but you can take a look for
yourselves
and see if it's any use.
*. Download button.
Finally we come to the download button. Once you reach here, just press
the
spacebar and the song will be downloaded and converted. This can take a
couple of minutes so be patient. You will hear percentages of the
download
being announced from time to time and when it's finished you will hear a
small chime sound.
4. Finally, we have a close button and if you tab once you will have a
"graphic button". If you press the spacebar on this button it will open
up
the location in your documents folder where the file is resident in. Once
in
here you can select the file and hit enter to have it open up and begin
playing. Alternatively, just hit spacebar on the close button and you
will
be back in the normal converters interface. Use "alt + F4" to close out
of
this and back to the desktop.
Note: If you wish to find your files from the desktop, just go into my
documents and then into the DVD Video Soft directory. In here go into the
folder, "Free Youtube to MP3 folder and you will locate your downloaded
files all converted into MP3s.
I hope you find this tutorial informative and useful.
Paul.
