Hi Paul, I think that my operating system and indeed computer are a bit old hat now so I will have to upgrade like most of you in to the 21st century! Sorry about all the confusion but surely it's resolved now and we all I trust can move on in our learning! A lot more learning in an upgrade I'm thinking, but I would welcome it! There was an old teacher of mine once said that "a little learning is a dangerous thing"! [*smile*] I'm beginning to see what he meant now! Apologies once again! All the best now. Tony Sweeney. ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Dromey To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, August 06, 2007 11:31 AM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Windows Find Hi Tony. Interesting idea but I don't suppose it would help much really. Probably the best way to find out if something works on an older operating system is throough trial and error. You found it with the alt i, I recently had a similar experience with both the tutorials on volume desktop shortcut and rules. I too like yourself wish to encourage as many people as possible to contribute to this list with of course questions and answers too! I wonder would it be an idea for us all, [including yours truly], to let the list know in questions and answers what operating system and screenreader is being used? What do you think? You're right! This list is a bit like life, we live and learn! Incidentally I have picked up a few tips from your good self on this list for which again I thank you, including about The Irish Times from TNAUK which I will follow up. I will get back now to what remains of this wet weekend oh and of course the hurling! All the best, Tony Sweeney. ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Dromey To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, August 05, 2007 11:53 AM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Windows Find Hi Tony. It works with both my Millennium desktop and XP laptop. I suppose that's the trouble with sharing information when so many of us are using different operating systems. Still, I feel that all members of this list should be encouraged to share their knowledge and experience. We're all learning as we go along, a bit like life I suppose! I am using Windows 98 SE but what you say does not work with that OS I'm afraid! What OS do you use? I got a little wet from my walk a little earlier; both inside and out!! Enjoy the rest of what remains of the weekend, rain or no! This was my reply to a question on how to quickly find an old email within either the in box or sent items. Press alt and the letter i (jaws then asks you to press forms mode and input the search criteria, for example the name of the sender you are looking for, the subject line, or part of the email text) , then tab to find and enter). I didn't bother including the bit within brackets as jaws supplies the information when you press alt and i. The win F search command is, as you point out, a very handy one to know. The alt and i command is particularly useful if you keep a lot of emails in say your sent items box and want to find one quickly . Now I for one am not making an issue here, out of sensitivity for the feelings of the person who wrote that erroneous reply! I am continuing to go carefully with this! Now if people are happy with erronious answers to questions on this list then that is their prerogative, but I won't be part of it I assure you! The question though was in relation to doing a find for Paul t's 'emails to the list and it was stated by a lister, whom I won't name, that they should press alt and the letter i and then press enter! This was of course wrong! Alt i would be for if you want to insert an attachment! By the way should anyone find that erroneous email perhaps they could email it to me off list, and not to the list, please? Sorry to be going on, on a bank holiday weekend but I had only intended to send one gently rebuking email on the subjectt but I had to clarify to you after your email back! Now I think I will take a Saturday evening stroll!! All the best, Tony Sweeney. ----- Original Message ----- From: Loretta Conaty To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, August 04, 2007 8:14 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Windows Find Hi Tony, I didn't see any question lately on the list about "Windows Find" - which one was that? Perhaps it would be best that if you thought that a reply to a particular question was "erroneous" that you could query it as it may have been a knowledgeable piece of information relating to some other particular issue, which could be stored away for future reference. as you have said yourself "I must confess that we can all get things a little wrong at times, but it is important for any list to Endeavour at all times to maintain it's integrity.! Best wishes, Loretta. ------------------------------------------------------------------ From: vip_students-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vip_students-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of tonysweeney Sent: 04 August 2007 17:29 To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vip_students] Windows Find Hi All, Another lister posed a question to this list re Windows Find and the answer given by another lister was in my opinion erronious having tried it out! The answer to the Find question is: press the Win key and the letter f, and tab from there and the rest should be self-explanatory! I must confess that we can all get things a little wrong at times, but it is important for any list to endeavour at all times to maintain it's integrity. Enjoy the long weekend! Tony Sweeney.
