The following is taken from the Kurzweil 1000 manual, page 395.
Obtaining Kurzweil Product Updates
From time to time, Kurzweil Educational Systems provides eligible
customers with product updates and patches. From the Online menu, it's
possible to automatically apply a product patch that you select and
download directly from the company Web site.
To download product updates from Kurzweil:
1. Open the Online menu and select Updates or press Alt+N, then U.
The Online Status dialog opens.
In the Items available for download checkbox list, you'll find product
patches and information applicable to the version of Kurzweil 1000 you
are running.
2. Select from the list, then press ENTER to download.
3. Once the download completes, exit the Kurzweil 1000 program at your
convenience to automatically apply the patch.

In Kurzweil 1000 itself: Along the menu bar, navigate to Online submenu.
Explore this and try out
what is presented.
. DownArrow to updates.... and then press enter. With items found, they
will be announced and will initially be unchecked. Press spacebar on
12.04 update, to tick it. Tab to OK and enter. it may take a little
while to download. when it has finished or 'done', close the program as
usual, and open K1000 again. the version has now been updated to 12.04.
If nothing happens, it is because your firewall hasn't permitted
Kurzweil to access the server. there is an FTP alternative should that
be necessary: Let us know if yu have any problems using the options I
outlined above.
