Paul, Kaspersky, though good, is not acessible: Several users who've tried it have attested to that. PANDASOFT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED; UT AGAIN, ITS ACCESSIBILITY is open to question - someone tried it (for me) before I got my present computer, and found it wanting there. Nod32 is the antivirusprogram I use. It is quite accessible - once you remember to use the F5 keywhen you open the program, and that it is structured basically in a treeview whose limbs you arrow down, in some cases open up with right-arrow, andthen tab into the list of options to explore the settings. It is about 30 euros annually, though this depends on which edition you purchase. it is also available in a th9irty-day trial version from www.eset.com/ or www.eset.ie/ (their Irish HQ is in new Ross, Co. Wexford.)----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Traynor" <paul.traynor@xxxxxxx>To: <vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, December 04, 2008 8:08 AM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Antivirus Programmes Hi Tony, What swings it for me with Avast over AVG is that you can perform a lowlevel scan with the free version of Avast which will strike terror into themost troublesome viruses, those which are hard to eradicate using a normal conventional scan within the windows environment. Also I have come across instances where AVG 8 has tampered with the loading of the applications in Microsoft Office on windows Vista machines. Once it was removed all worked fine and work fine under Avast. Those are my only thoughts on it, the decision is yours. I believe that Kaspersky makes a nice antivirus program also and nod32 comes well recommended as does the pandasoft products. Is it not as accessible as before? Looking forward to the update. Glad that Avast is working for you.Tony----- Original Message -----From: Paul Traynor <mailto:paul.traynor@xxxxxxx>To: vip_students@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, November 29, 2008 12:10 PM Subject: [vip_students] Re: Antivirus Programmes Hi Tony, I have used avast ow for the past 3 years or so and find it very good. I have so far never fell victim to virus attacks and Avast was always on the ball when it came to tackleing any potential threats. I am thinking of uninstalling same and installing something like Avast (which you mention on the list from time to time) Could you advise further of this programme as to it's merits or otherwise? I don't see much mention of AVG now, is it because it is a paid-for programme now &/or has there been problems associated with it? Please advise. Catch up with my mails after weekend.
