 TOYS FOR TOTS DINNER TONIGHT!  The North Central PA Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), the DuBois Rotary Club, Downtown DuBois Revitalization Group and the Greater DuBois Chamber will hold a benefit buffet for the Toys for Tots program at Luigi’s Ristorante on Monday, November 8th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. The Chamber’s Annual Business Bash (formerly the Gala) will be held January 29th at the DuBois Country Club.  We are seeking sponsorships for the event which include tickets for your employees and/or guests to attend this great night when we present various awards and honors, enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages, and spend some quality time with our business friends.  The Business Leader Sponsorship for $1,000 includes 8 tickets, program ad and banner at event; The All American for $500 includes 6 tickets and program ad; Flag Sponsor includes 4 tickets and program ad; Corporate includes 2 tickets and logo in program.  If you’re not able to sponsor perhaps you can donate a basket to help raise funds for student scholarships?  We’d be happy to supply more information, just contact us at dacc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

 

The Friends of the DuBois Public Library are sponsoring a basket raffle during the month of  November. Gift baskets will be on display at the library beginning November  9. Tickets will be available for $1.00 each and winners will be announced at 2:00 P.M. on  Friday, November 19. The proceeds of this event will benefit the DuBois Public Library.  If you would like to participate in the event, create a gift basket which includes a book and various items related to the subject of the book. It is also helpful to include a list of those items, For ideas, see an example  on display at the library. Gift basket donations may be dropped off at the library on Saturday, November 6 or Monday, November 8.  

 

The DuBois Chapter of the American Red Cross will be holding a Health and Safety class at their office at 109 N. Brady Street in DuBois:  Child & Infant CPR on Tuesday, November 9.

Relay For Life of DuBois will hold their monthly meeting on Nov. 10 at 6:30 at the DuBois Business College.  If you are interested in supporting the Relay, forming a Team or just to get more information please call Eva McKee at 375-3844 or Susan Babik at 800-458-3856  Ext 3507

 

Programs at Cook Forest State Park - Friday, November 12 at 330pm - ‘Evening Equestrian Tour’   Please meet at the Silver Stallion Stables for a unique three-hour equestrian  interpretive tour via horseback into the early evening hours. You will travel through the pine orchards of Forest Drive and deep within the Forest Cathedral. Whitetail deer and goshawks have been known to make an appearance. Cost is $100 per  person which includes basic riding instruction, a wide array of discussion on environmental topics and a scenic campfire dinner prepared by a local Chef. (Vegetarian options available).  Participants must be at least 12 yrs of age and weigh no more than 250 lbs.  Pre-registration by November 10th is required, and is limited to 8 people.  A Visa or MasterCard will hold the reservation.  A 25% cancellation fee for any cancellations 48hrs prior to November 12th.  For directions, information, or to register, contact Silver Stallion Stables at (814) 927-6636.  Don’t forget your headlamps!  (3 hrs)

Friday, November 12 at 800pm - ‘Spotting Pennsylvania’s Elusive White-tail Deer’       Please bring your spotlights and meet at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom for an evening driving tour as we car-pool to Cook Forest’s white-tail hotspots.  Come learn about the natural history of our Commonwealth’s state mammal, as we cruise the park searching for this elusive animal.  (2.5 hrs)

 

Murder Mystery Fundraiser is this week - Saturday, November 13th at the DuBois Country Club.  This year’s murder involves Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel!  Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased from the C/J Drug & Alcohol Commission or the Greater DuBois Chamber.  This a unique and different way to spend a Saturday night with friends, so get the gang together and call for tickets – this is a sell out every year!  Proceeds benefit the C/J Drug Free Communities Coalition.

 

First Step: Starting a Small Business – Workshop each month through December 2010 designed to give you a head-start with your business.  Topics that will be covered during each session:  What to consider before starting a business; License and tax information; Regulations governing a business; Guidelines on how to finance your business; How and why to prepare a business plan; Other resources you can use to help you plan and succeed.  All sessions will be held on Saturday mornings at the DuBois Hampton Inn from 8:30 – noon.  The dates of the workshop is November 13.

Hospital Avenue Project Update for Week of Nov. 8 - The following information is an update for PennDOT’s Hospital Avenue/Dixon Avenue realignment project in DuBois for the week of Nov. 8. All work is weather dependent.

·         TRAFFIC ALERT:  New traffic patterns will be in place on South Main Street Extension near the Dixon Avenue/Hospital Avenue intersection. The contractor will be excavating for and placing concrete pavement in this area. Be alert for changing traffic patterns throughout the week.

·         Dixon Avenue is now open to two-way traffic.

·         The contractor will continue to install new curb and sidewalk throughout the project.

  • Motorists are advised to watch for slow moving and stopped vehicles through the entire work zone. 

The overall project will re-align Hospital Avenue with Dixon Avenue.  Work includes roadway widening, new traffic signals, and improved access to DRMC. The job is scheduled to run through late November of this year.

 

The Penn State DuBois Business Society and THON are hosting a charity event called Casino Night on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 7-10 pm at the DuBois Campus in the Hiller Building Student Union.  The proceeds for this event will be donated to DRMC’s Hahne Cancer Center and THON.  Casino games will consist of Blackjack, War, Roulette, and Bingo.  There will also be a raffle, 50/50, and free food.

 

Wine-ee Women will meet November 17th from 7-9pm at the Winery at Wilcox in the DuBois Mall.  The theme is Disco Night with a presentation of Zumba by Marcela.  Food provided for $10 per person.  RSVP by November 12th to 375-6885 or email news@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

               

The Make-A-Wish Foundation will once again be holding their annual Light Up A Child’s Life Campaign. This year’s campaign will be held the week of December 6-10, 2010. The Make-A-Wish Foundation will be broadcasting live each day, 7 am – 4 pm on Sunny 106. Stop in to say hello, make a donation or place a bid on one of the many great auction items.
