Medical
Center is hosting an American
Lung
Association “Freedom from Smoking” class to teach people how to
stop smoking starting Sept. 7.
Trained facilitators help participants stop tobacco use through eight
classes. Attend the first one to see if it is right for you. The class
starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Resource Center at DRMC’s west
campus.
It is the former Central Christian High School building. Many
medications
can now help with smoking cessation. These medications are a component
of the
program. Financial aid for the medications is available for those who

that the

Added Today: Hospital Avenue
Project
Update for Week of Sept. 6 - The
following
information is an update for PennDOT’s Hospital Avenue/Dixon
Avenue realignment project in DuBois for the week of Sept. 6. All
work is
weather dependent. ·
No
work will
be performed on Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. ·
The
contractor
will be installing waterline on South Main Street between Grove Avenue
and
Dixon Avenue. ·
The
contractor
will be excavating and grading South Main Street between Grove Avenue
and Dixon
Avenue in preparation for paving. This work will be in the lane that is
currently closed and will not affect traffic. Two lanes of traffic will
be
maintained on South Main Street. ·
Motorists
are
advised to watch for slow moving and stopped vehicles through the
entire work
zone. The overall project
will
re-align Hospital Avenue with Dixon Avenue. Work includes roadway
widening, new traffic signals, and improved access to DRMC. The job is
scheduled to run through late November of this year. There will be a
ribbon
cutting Tuesday, September 7th
for the area’s newest business – Airgas is opening their
doors at the former car wash building on Beaver Drive. Stop in and
meet the
staff and welcome them to DuBois! The DuBois Chamber
and DuBois
Business College are accepting students in the Greater DuBois
Leadership
Institute for the 2010-2011 session. The students learn about
local,
county and state government; tourism and industry; and visit with local
entrepreneurs and corporate CEOs. One session is held each month from
September through May with graduation held in June. This program is
for
those who are new to the area, those being moved into a new position in
your
company or those seeking knowledge about the area to become one of our
next

The Dale
Carnegie Course
will again be offered to local high school students. Financial
assistance is
being requested so the students do not have to personally pay for this

The DuBois Area
Historical
Society will hold its Fourth Annual Open House, Saturday, Sept. 11, 10 a.m. -3 p.m. at the E.D.
Reitz
Museum, 28 W. Long Ave., DuBois. The open house is free and open to the
public.
“The Society wants to share what we have developed in DuBois,” said
Society President Evo Facchine. “The museum exhibits thousands of items
related to local history.” The open house will include guided tours of
the facilities including the genealogical library. Because of the tours
genealogical research cannot be conducted during the open house but
arrangements can be made to return at a later time for help in finding
family
information. “This is an excellent chance for everyone in the
community
to see what the Society owns and what the Society is currently doing,”
said Facchine. “This is our history and the Society wants all to
appreciate it, learn from it, and enjoy it. The DuBois Area Historical
Society
will host the Third Annual Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk on October 16th. The Walk
will begin at
6 p.m. and leave every 20 minutes from the Hiller Building on the Penn
State
DuBois Campus, the original property of DuBois patriarch John DuBois.
On the
walk, “Spirits” of DuBois’ history will speak to the tours.
The walk topics are suitable for all ages. Admission for the tour is $5
for
adults and $3 for students, with children sixth grade and younger free
if
accompanied by an adult. Then on Nov. 13th
the Fourth Annual DuBois Area Historical Society luncheon will take
place at
noon at the DuBois Diner, featuring guest speaker, Barb Clark, “Hidden
Messages of Quilts.” Further details will be announced at a later date. City Tobacco
& Lottery will host a Gentlemen’s
Night on
Saturday, September 17th
from
7:00 to 9:00 pm at their location in the DuBois Area Plaza on the
