Hay there Ronan and Stuart,

I've had a Qtek 9000 PDA Phone running Windows Mobile 5 for about a month
now running both Pocket HAL and Mobile Speak Pocket and Alas, I wouldn't
suggest anyone go out and buy one just yet. It's not new technology but the
screen readers are thus the problems haven't been ironed out of them yet.

That said though, I've been using my baby for quite a while now and I
honestly couldn't see my self without it any more. I use it on the train in
the morning with a stereo bluetooth headset to listen to music, with a
bluetooth keyboard during meetings for taking notes, with Active sync I have
all my work files available anywhere and in wireless hotspots such as the
Hotel where the VICS AGM was held, I have access to the Internet that almost
equals that provided by my desktop.

I also have a Nokia 6680 and find it the most reliable phone I've ever used.
If you are in a hurry I'd agree with Stuart, go for it. That said though,
The next version of Talks should be released fairly soon. The date has
slipped a bit but when it comes out you will have access to a wider variety
of phones as it will support S60 third edition.

Now, I'm going to stop writing now. Someone is looking over my shoulder
correcting my spelling! It's really bad when a dyslexic can correct someone
who is not! I give up!

Hi Ronan,

Going on your wish list, I'd tend to suggest that the Nokia 6680 with Talks
might be a good purchase.

Its better I think, than the N70, which is the phone I'm currently using.

Its also worth looking at the new generation of windows-based smartphones,
running both Windows Mobile and Windows Smartphone.

While these phones do not currently support Talks, they are supported by
both Dolphin's Pocket Hal and Smart Hal respectively and by Code factory's
Mobile Speak Pocket and Mobile Speak Smartphone.

Having seen these phones earlier this week I feel they have some definite
advantages, especially in the way they interact with standard windows
applications on your pc.

It also looks like these devices will become more commonplace in the Mobile
Phone market in the very near future.

Hope this helps.

Stuart.

Hello to the VICS list!

I am using a Nokia 6600 phone with Talks at present. I think I will need to
replace the phone soon.

What are people's recommendations on newer nokia phones?

Here is my wishlist of features:
To be able to run Talks,
to have a Bluetooth connection
To be able to attach with a USB cable to a pc To be able to play mp3 files
to be able to run Loadstone gps to have a cable-based headset connection (or
earphone connection) to listen to mp3 files

I would like the keypad to be at least as easy and preferably easier than
Nokia 6600
I find the keypad lock and unlock on Nokia 6600 a bit awkward and I think
I would prefer a flipover type phone As a possible extra, I think I would
like to be able to use a fold up qwerty keyboard for use with Quick Office
Finally I would like to be sure it had enough memory and also to have it run
a bit quicker than nokia 6600

Does anyone know if a phone with such a specification exists and what is
your experience with it?

Many thanks,
Ronan
