However, WebVisum with firefox has no difficulty in solving it. Two random
words in the image: well, we activate the find CAPTCHA ctrl-alt-6 - a
WebVisum keystroke - and some 10 seconds later, the words are on the
clipboard and ready for pasting. Firefox gives a different rendering of the
page than internet Explorer.

You did better than me there, Stuart. I submitted five or six Facebook
images to Solona, none of which they/he [bernard maldonado, the operator]
could identify. Sighted assistant present, on a second attempt, solved it.
there is some sort of time-out operating with that Facebook image CAPTCHA as
well.

Couldn't agree more with you Flor about the Facebook captcha, and indeed
when I tried Solona to solve it, they had to try three different images as
they were so difficult to see!

When I used the Google audio CAPTCHA, two years ago, what it sounded like
was a woman giving and then repeating a group of five digits in an East
Asian accent, her voice slightly distorted, against a backgrounf of what
could have been a radio tuned into short-wave chatter, played in reverse. I
eventually got the hang of it. the CAPTCHA on Facebook, by comparison with
that, is just abysmal. (from what I've heard tell, The image CAPTCHA there
is bad enough, too.)
one of the best audio CAPTCHA's I've heard is the BBC one, where you are
asked to type in the security code when verifying you wish to notify someone
by email of a news story on the BBC site. I'd be almost afraid that it's
nearly or quite possible for a voice recognition software to identify the
digits spoken there. but for now we needn't worry about that.

Google is a complete pain in the backside for its captchas, as far as I can
remember. I had to get someone to fill it in for me before the invention of
WebVisum with Firefox which I use now whenever I want to solve one of those
horrible things.
