I would like to give a bit more background: A couple of months ago, I sent an email to Irish Rail complaining about the lack of announcements on the DART. I received two emails back--one only in Irish which I cannot read and the other one a rather technical report informing me about some stupid reason why the announcements don't work. I then brought it up on the other mailinglist as a new subject to discuss as I thought this would be of interest to everyone. When I sent a letter to the Irish Times a couple of weeks ago, I again posted this to the list. Unfortunately, I had to learn that this is something that has been going on for months and years and that many people with a vision impairment have already complained to Irish Rail with no success. I then encouraged everyone to send in a letter like myself to make it a really big thing in the Irish Times. That's how it all started. We tried to get together to do something. I would strongly encourage everyone to join the other list. The things that are discussed there are of interest to everyone with a vision impairment, I think. Of course that's only my personal opinion, and when people feel for whatever reason that they don't want to join, that's of course fine and their choice. The Ireland Vip News list has 122 members. It is completely open to interested participants or readers and it is costless. There are two ways to join: 1. Email irelandvipnews-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx subscribe in the subject line. Reply to the confirmation message. All subscription requests are welcome. I am currently acting as moderator and would be delighted to expedite such requests - as would John Carrol who is currently on six week leave. 2. This is a way I'm not familiar with because I haven't done it, but apparently, if you go to http://lists.ie/mailman/listinfo/irelandvipnews there should be a means of requesting a subscription. The list is open to reporting news and exploring ideas related to vision inmapirment. Like any mailing list, not every subject will be relevant or interesting to every reader, but we all take the rough with the smooth, and overall, 122 people seem to think it is worthwhile. I suspect there would be thousands of subscribers if the subscription information were more publicised. The railway announcements campaign was germinated and co-ordinated on IrelandVipNews. it was an organic campaign with no leaders (although Martin O'Sullivan did the lion's share of the work). The campaign was the sum of its members, ans more members and imput are always welcome. This is my outreach for the week. If someone can't be bothered to sign up because of some preconceived notion or some chip on shoulder, I am genuinely sorry to see that. Regards to all, Robbie
