BlankHi Paul,

I think it was step 6 where I was getting a little woolly!

I had problems with accsessing stations on that site before and thought that it
must be something I was doing wrong!

One of course doesn't select a player say from a drop-down or something but
when you enter on a station link that station should in theory at any rate
open?

Now I do know that it is advisable to install all of the 3 major players to
enable stations to play!

Trust I am good so far!

I think that I may have a problem in the way that my system is configured!

Here's just one question!

Say I have WMP as my default player and say I want to play a Beeb station which
I think uses Real Player or Alternative, will the BBC station play in Real
Player say, although I have WMP as my default player.

In other words is it a disadvantage sometimes to have one player or others as
default.

Any other commentss or suggestions from you or others gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony.

  hi tony and folks

in the tutorial i posted on recording internet radio i mentioned that some
stations use real player and some use windows media player.
using the instructions in the tutorial for the website mentioned will let you
identify which stations use which player.
personally i have both real player and windows media player installed to
widen my choice of stations i can play but as far as i can figure if a station
uses real player and you only have wmp then you are snookered!

below are the steps in the tutorial that are relevant to this question

Keep pressing your down arrow until you come to the station you want, in our
example radio one extra.

6 when you get to the station you will hear the following

  First the station name

Second the location of the station

Third jaws will say Graphic and then the player you can use i.e. if it says
graphic real audio you can use real player to play and record the station.

If jaws says graphic and windows media player you can use that one and so on

  Note

that if jaws announces map then the station will open in real player too.

7 now we wanted radio one extra in Dublin and have got to the station name

Arrow down again and we hear Dublin, its location

Arrow down again and we hear graphic real audio which means the station can
be played through real player

arrow down again you will hear jaws say graphic windows media but we want to
arrow down past this

arrow again and jaws says link 32 kbps this is the link to open and listen to
the station

8 Press enter and the station opens in real player after a few seconds. Be
patient

i use the mikesworldradio site because it is not so tricky to navigate. there
are numerous sites like shoutcast.com

or radio365 which you might find more or less easier to navigate.

hope that clears things a little, but contact me either on list or offlist

if you run into any other glitchs, god knows it took me 3 years to get my
head around it.

  regards

  Paul H
