I seem to have solved the problem by switching key lock in Sounds Settings on. At least, everything has been fine for almost a week now. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Usually this is the issue when the phone sounds go on my phone. I always have speech working when this happens, as the speech volume is separate from the actual phone sounds volume. It sounds like you need to do a reset to fix the issue.
