With regard to Linux, Anthony Sales is a lecturer at RNC in Hereford and is
developing, or is part of the team developing Vinux. He will be demonstrating
this on our stand at Sight Village this year and we are also having a seminar
as part of our fortieth anniversary at the Appolo hotel after Sight Village.

I know some of VICS members usually come across to Sight Village. We'd be
pleased to see you at the stand.

If anyone is interested in taking part in the seminar, please look at our
website www.bcab.org.uk

I believe some information has recently been put up there, though I confess I
haven't had time to take a look.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Subject: [vicsireland] Update from VICS AGM 2009

Hi all,

As most of you are probably aware, the VICS AGM for 2009 took place last
Saturday June 6th.

Despite the terrible weather conditions in Dublin, a healthy number of you
turned up and participated in what turned out to be an extremely lively
meeting. Sincere thanks to you all.

The new committee elected to serve for the coming year are as follows:

Chairperson:     Ciaran Ferry

Deputy Chair:    Joan Ann Brosnan

Secretary:       Esmond Walshe

Treasurer:       Tim Culhane

PRO:             Derbhile Dromey

Ordinary Member: Darragh O'Héiligh

Ordinary Member: Nicky Kealy

On behalf of the entire committee I'd like to thank everyone who elected us,
we'll do our best over the next year to ensure that VICS continues to grow and
prosper as a society.

For those of you who couldn't make it on Saturday, here are some of last terms
achievements:

- Acted as judges of the accessibility category in the Irish Web Awards;
- Ran 2 training days, one in Dublin and one in Limerick;
- Organised a very well attended Information and Technology day in Cork;
- Established a working group to research the free operating system Linux and
it's built-in assistive software;
- Participated in the TV Access Campaign;
- Ran a business-focused seminar with the ICS to promote web accessibility;
- Continued to operate an extremely lively email discussion list;

If you'd like to contact any of the committee, please do so at any time.
Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Updated contact details will be on
the website shortly.

Regards,

Ciaran
