Hi allI have had problems on a Dell Latitude laptop with Jaws7. This appears to be due to an incompatibility with the graphics adaptor. The adaptor is a mobile Intel 945 GM Express. When I moved to another laptop with a different adaptor my problems disappeared. Apparently the problem with the Mobile Intel 945 GM Express is still there with JAWS 8 and 9. Is there any possibility that this might be relevant to your case?
The type of problem that I had was that JAWS would occasionalyy not read text, It would not echo text or allow me to select text in Notepad and it also behaved strangely in Word and email, not tracking the cursor correctly.
Perhaps it is worth checking the graphics adaptor version just to rule this out.

Ok Tony, thanks for clarifying. I haven't had problems with key echo but I am using Jaws 9 and Windows Vista. You could contact Freedom Scientific about the matter but I think it willmost likely require a Jaws upgrade to fix. It only seems to happen with version 8!I wonder if really people should have to live with this, in view of what weare expected to pay for such adaptive software! Have you yourself had any issues with Jaws echo? I have a 40 minute trial version of 9 for now but I am using the full version of Jaws 8. I have a very high spec laptop. It is a Vostro using Windows XP Pro. It has 3 gig of ram! I could send you the complete spec off list should you wish to pursue this further.Someone has thrown out the possibility that it might have something to dowith the video card! I don't think now that it is a jaws config situation!I have however changed the Jaws key echo to echo only words, and not as Ireally prefer letters only! Thanks, Tony.----- Original Message ----- From: "Stuart Lawler" <stuart.lawler@xxxxxxx> To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, April 13, 2008 12:04 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Jaws 8 Key EchoHi Tony,Sounds possibly like a memory problem. You would then tab, and in the combo box pick the keyboard Voice,3of4and then make the adjustments as you tab through. However, that assuchmaynot be the problem. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen Newelll" <mcnewell@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, April 11, 2008 7:09 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Re: Jaws 8 EchoTony, Insert and 2 on the top line toggles between the diferent echoesyouwant. Perhaps JAWS can't keep up with your fingers, they are going sofast! Maybe if you speeded up JAWS a bit, it might help, you do thisbydoing insert and j, then options and then down to voices. Next enteronglobal adjustment and JAWS will say "modify default" radio buttonchecked, tab once and it will say "rate" and arrow up or down to increase therate, then tab over to the O.K. button. ----- Original Message -----From: "Tony Sweeney" <tonysweeney1@xxxxxxxxxx>To: "vics" <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, April 11, 2008 12:09 AM Subject: [vicsireland] Jaws 8 Echo Hi All, I am using XP Pro with jaws 8.Now, Jaws is not always echoing the letters I write although I have itsetto speak, letters & words!
