Tony, Is your soundcard a Sigmatel, or some other model? Also, you might discover more options if you go into volume control through Sounds and audio in Control panel instead. (It may take a while for you to solve this one. These type of problems can be difficult to resolve. For example, although i am using windows XP, there is an extra piece of software called Vinyl Deck, which has a great influence on my sound card's volume levels, etc. Yet I'm lucky, because another blind guy has Vinyl Deck but is unable to access it settings, even though i told him how I do it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Sweeney" <tonysweeney1@xxxxxxxxxx> To: "vics" <vicsireland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2008 8:10 PM Subject: [vicsireland] Disabling Sterio/Bass for Jaws Hi All, I am trying to disable bass &/or sterio enhancements when I go in to the audio in the system tray! I see Audio and adjust audio but I don't see an option in there to disable the bass and/or stterio enhancements! My Jaws 8.2173 with XP Pro is acting up, or rather it should vbe calling out letters all the time but not all of the time I'm afraid! Can someone please advise! S & S can't advise further! Perhaps they want me to upgrade to 9!! [smile] I will include their mail below! Tony. Dear Tony I cannot give you an exact answer on this one, but I think I know what may be causing your problems but you will need to have an explore yourself. We have had similar delay problems with the Sigmatel High Definition Audio chipset in Windows VISTA machines. The first thing you should do is make sure you have JAWS 8.0.2173 installed, if you do not you can go into the "help" menu in the JAWS window and choose "check for updates" and get the automatic update mechanism to update your JAWS. Secondly you should try and find your way into the system tray with JAWS by using JAWSKey+F11 and look for volume in the list of items and press enter. You will then be in the volume controls, be careful not to do anything hasty especially as regards muting things. However if you find options for stereo or bass enhancements disable these options, they are part of a DSP layer on the chipset and when active can cause unnecessary latency. This is where we have found particular benefits in getting better responsiveness out of JAWS. Regards. Tristram Llewellyn Technical Support Sight and Sound Technology
