[vicsireland] Re: Accessible digital recorder

Hi Cearbhall,

MD stands for Minidisk, often for short people refer to them as MD players
or MD recorders.

The recording quality on the iAudio, even with the Pre-amp that Robbie
mentioned, is simply not good enough at all.

The Iriver H340 is, or in my case was, a far better recorder.

If you want something nice and relatively easy to use, I'd suggest the
Edoral range of recorders. While they don't speak, they are not very
complicated and are dedicated professional recording units, at a not too
high price.

Regards,

Stuart.

Thanks, Robbie,

Excuse my ignorance but what is an MD player?

Yours sincerely,

Hi Cearbhall,
The I Audio X5 is a nice thing with Rockbox, but to use it for live
recording you need an extra pre-amp that goes between the unit and the
external mike. I find that cumbersome. I have not yet found a digital
recorder that allows for easy recording on the move. I thought that Stream
thing Alan demonstrated at the Open Day was just the thing, but it turns out
it only records in mono. When I want to record live gigs I still use an MD
player, from which I transfer it to my hard drive later. Incidentally, I use
a Sony ECM 717 stereo clip-on mike. It's got a very realistic capture.
Cheers,
Robbie Sandberg

Hi Cearbhall,

They're both pocket units.

check out related poddcasts at:
www.blindcooltech.com
www.acbradio.org/mainmenu.html

and search for Iaudio x5
and Olympus DS50, or ds-50.

Also, you'll find info on
www.hartgen.org and look for the portable player portal.

Hope this helps.

Eamonn,

Thanks for the prompt reply! Are these desktop units? I forgot to mention
that I am particularly looking for a pocket recorder that I can take to
sessions and record live material for later study.

All the best,

Hi Cearbhall,

Possibly the Iaudio X5, (with Rockbox,) though I haven't come to terms with
mine. this 20GB unit, may no longer be available, an Stuart commented
that he felt it wasn't good enough to record Infovics.

alternatively, the Olympus DS50, (a 1GB unit,) . may be worth
considering.

I think you'll find reviews of both, on Blind Cool Tech and Main Menu.

Regards,

Eamonn

Dear all,

Has anyone found a good digital recorder that can be used non-visually and
makes good quality sound recordings of live music?

All the best,
