Hi all,
Thanks for the interesting discussion thread Nicky and for suggesting a
music-making opportunity. There have been similar ventures in the past
organised by the former Visually Impaired Musicians Association that folded in
about 2009.
I believe there is still a singing weekend at the hotel in Teignmouth, Devon
each year which is popular. The difficulties with organising such things are
the cost, commitment of participants and tutors. There are a few interested on
this list, and doubtless others elsewhere, but does this interest translate
into financial commitment ahead of the day which is sufficient to book
accommodation and tutors?
I would suggest that the songwriting and performing stream might be best kept
separate from the technology side of things which might best be done on a
one-to-one basis or in small day-long workshops. Others may disagree.
Sarah's idea of an open-mic night could be interesting and this could be a
constructive end to a retreat.
Cheers, James

Hi Nicki
I am an aspiring DJ rather than a musician. Opportunities to learn how to
record, produce and mix dance music would be great and also the opportunity to
get involved with getting some of the technology involved made more accessable
would be great as well! Cheers! Graham

Hi All,
I hope you're well and being creative.
I'm doing a lot of work with arts organisations including my own
www.thevipproject.com
A collective aim is creating more opportunities for creative people with
disabilities. I lean more towards helping musicians with disabilities. I'm just
looking for your opinions at this point, what kind of opportunities would you
like to see become available for you? Is there already enough out there? If so,
what barriers do you face, if any to get involved?
Please let me know.
Also, would a songwriting retreat be something of interest to any of you? 3-4
days away in a U.K. location, where you work in groups to write songs and it
would be run by established and successful music industry professionals.
Hope to hear from you.
Nicki
