(VICT) Several Smokey brags.

Hi all,

Melinda and Smokey, My Mellow Fellow here,

Last night was the second week of our Adaptive Home Maintainance class, and
Smokey did very well.  We were gone all day yesterday, so I brought his
food along with me, and I fed and parked him before the class started.
Because we were doing some basic plumbing type things, I decided to use his
travel kennel to make sure that he wouldn't be in the way.  He was so cute
when he saw me bring the travel crate out, he just wiggled all over.  I set
it up, and he went right in and flopped down and went to sleep.  Actually,
he spent the evening either sleeping or watching the goings on from the
safety of his kennel.  Everyone thought it was a really cool thing to have.
 There is another guide dog team in the class too, and the two dogs get
along well.

When the class was over, I opened the crate and a little labby boy came
dancing out all wiggles and waggles.  We waited for our cab, and when it
came, he guided me right to the door and hopped in and laid at my feet even
though the cab was kind of tight on floor space.

When we got home, he led me to our door, ignoring the neighbor dog who was
barking wildly when it saw us.  After I took his harness and leash off, and
after he'd had a big drink, I took him outside and we played with his
cosmic cone for about thirty minutes or so, and he went to sleep as soon as
we came in until it was time for his night time snack.  I was very proud of
him since there was quite a bit of noise, and other stuff on the floor
which he left alone.  He's turning into a wonderful guide, and my trust and
confidence continues to grow in his abilities every day.  Just thought I
would share.
