The product you are describing is called the ID Mate. another option is the Scan Talker which is an attachment to the Pac Mate for those who have a Pac Mate. Either scanner will scan the bar code on the product and then speak what ever information there is in the data base about that particular product. It can be used for anything which has a bar code including the barcodes one may choose to attach to items like file folders or CD's or garden stakes, or clothing, or shoes, or jewelry, or medications, or...the applications are endless. The scanner also reads thousands of labels from products like groceries, books, music CD's, I think movie DVD's and to keep this on topic, it will read the labels on your dog food cans so the dog gets his own food and not the canned chili for dinner. smile. I guess now that I have butted in here I should introduce myself. My name is Dixie and I am working my first guide, a wonderful Fidelco Shepherd, named Cobalt. We have been together almost 2 1/2 years. I heard about this list on another and really like the idea of clicker training. I have been lurking here for a couple weeks and am finding the information quite valuable. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jo Clayson" <joclayson@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <vi-clicker-trainers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2007 7:39 AM Subject: (VICT) Re: Shopping etc Speaking of technology -Many grocery stores now have some wee electronic label on the shelves that gives the name of the product, price, unit price, code #, and a bar code. The employes have a gadget that can change the info if needed when they are restocking. It seems that it wouldn't be too hard for some body to devise a similar gadget for reading that will then translate the info into an audio format, or even into electronic Braille. Would something like that be helpful? What kinds of problems or drawbacks would there be? Jo
