[va_co_birding] total ticks

Hello everyone - how many of us are there now?

One of my New Years resolutions was to get something going on this list
again. To start, I am tossing out a topic that Sue Heath and I have been
discussing: the "total ticks" game as applied to county listing in Virginia.

Maybe everyone on the list knows what I am talking about already, but just
in case: if you add the totals of all your county and independent city lists
together, you have your total ticks for Virginia counties.

Example: suppose you didn't travel much and you had only the following
county lists: 101 species in Lee County, 55 species in Wise County, 33
species in Norton, 95 species in Scott County, and 81 species from that trip
to Virginia Beach a few years back. Your total ticks would be 365.

By the way, AviSys software makes it very easy to calculate this figure once
you have entered the Virginia cities and counties and listed your bird
records accordingly. It has a "county summary" function that spits out the
number after only a couple of clicks.

Any comments?
