Wow, it's amazing to me that Mourning Dove is not in Fenton's top 10. It is
my number 1 species in terms of the number of counties/cities I've seen it
in. Since I have made a concerted effort to see them in every county in
recent years, that might seem to bias my numbers - but the reason I started
looking for them was partly that I'd already seen them in so many counties,
anyway. On the other hand, I also have American Crow way up there (all
identified by voice, of course).
Do you know how many "total geographic units" Fenton's numbers are based on?
That is, how many toal "counties and large cities" he recognizes? We've
talked about this a couple of times in past years but I can't remember if he
ever told me a total number. I know he lumps things like Augusta and
Charlottesville into their surrounding counties - or at least, he has in the
past.
