[va-richmond-general] prothonotary warbler project at Dutch Gap

Just finished a round of prothonotary warbler nest box checking at Dutch Gap
today. At present there are just over 100 eggs in the boxes plus another 11
boxes that have freshly-completed nest cups and
are ready for eggs. One female caught today was banded last June 17th as a new
mother of four young (her 1st breeding season). Today she was sitting on a 7
egg clutch (!), one box away from where she

nested last year. I know two parents that will have a busy month ahead of
them! The box near the boardwalk below Henricus has a completed nest with 1
egg as of last Friday. The number is probably 4
today, and the female should be incubating them by tomorrow.
