[va-richmond-general] opening day at the Powhatan WMA MAPS Station

Had a good day for inaugurating the new MAPS (monitoring avian productivity and
survivorship) station at the Powhatan Wildlife Management Area, although we
were unable to open one net due to high
water! Mary Arginteanu, Larry Robinson, John Dillard and I banded the
following 20 birds this morning:

1 gray catbird
2 northern cardinals
1 indigo bunting
1 Carolina wren
2 Carolina chickadees
3 common yellowthroats
1 yellow-breasted chat
4 white-eyed vireos
2 Louisiana waterthrushes (1 female with brood patch)
1 magnolia warbler
1 Canada warbler
1 Bicknell's thrush !!

Other warblers heard at the site this morning:

worm-eating
black and white
hooded
northern parula
ovenbird
prairie

We think it likely that the last five are breeding there, and we hope to band
them, as well as their offspring, in future sessions over the summer.
