[va-richmond-general] Re: new to listserve

Katie - welcome! You have definitely found the Richmond Aubudon's
listserv. Glad you joined it.

I am sorry I missed everyone for the CBC on Sunday morning, as I'd planned
to go originally. However, as I mentioned in emails that morning to the
Coe's and Arun Bose, I can no longer be outside in the cold weather when it
rains. Part of this is because I finally recovered from walking pneumonia
I contracted during the spring -- in early July. Not eager to repeat that
episode.

Sorry to have missed the fun, will try the January 7th event and hope to
see everyone again at the next meeting.

Happy holidays, all!

Irene in southside

Have I reached Audubon? This is my maiden voyage to the listserve.

Regarding the Black Vulture. Euthanasia literally translates good
death--from Greek, eu:good; thanatos:death. Being lured, poisoned and shot
sounds like a kind of death I would like to avoid. I also maintain that
animals in wild do not loaf, word which clearly gained popularity in the
mid 20th century with successful introduction of the penny loafer into our
culture. Never have I seen an animal sporting such footware and would love
for a cartoonist to have at this gross anthropomophism of vultures. It
seems to me that this kind of killing, which is anything but a good death,
is so cruel and vidictive that perhaps people have again ascribed human
motivation to these birds as if they were being malicious and intentionally
destructive. I also find it difficult to believe that the dead animals,
some of them surely blasted to bits, are going to be studied afterwards.

I enjoyed the walk yesterday at Henricus Park and was delighted that we
finally met up. Glad the weather wasn't worse for the Christmas Bird Count.
