[va-richmond-general] juvenile white Ibis

I saw the juvenile White Ibis Arun Bose reported seeing yesterday at the
roadside pond in Malvern Hill Battlefield of Richmond National Battlefield
Park. The bird is the grayish white color of dirty snow. I swa it at 5:05 p.m
this evening. Anybody contacted VSO yet to get the last time a White Ibis came
this far inland.

There are about 9 Great Egrets at the pond too. I saw a spotted sandpiper and
some shorebirds I could not be certain of the id without a scope and I do not
have a scope. The non spotted sandpiper shore birds are probably birds that did
not nest or has nesting failure. The USFWS biologist I served as a Purchasing
Specialist for in Alaska discussed in some of their science conferences that I
attended some shorebirds do that. I am going to check again on Thursday evening
for the bird. If it is there then I am going to organize a field trip for
Saturday morning from 7 a.m to 8: 8a.m. as follows: The Ibis can be seen with
binoculars but I want someone to bring a scope so we can see whatthe species of
shorebirds other than the spotted sandpiper and killdeer are. One car can be
parked to the left of the fire road. everyone will park at the parking lot and
I or someone with a van will run the birds the half mile to the fir road. To
avoid spooking any of the birds including the Ibis we can all stand on the
gravel fire road .

I will enter the sighting in e-bird . I am sure this will trigger a
verification call. Thank you Arun for taking care of the Battlefield Park units
into e-bird

Sincerely,

Tyler Turpin
