[va-richmond-general] fair is fowls and fowls are fair

Apologies to Shakespeare for that subject line :-)

I took a long walk along Riverside Drive on Saturday, from Huguenot Falls to
the Wetlands and back. The number of ducks was way down. About all I saw,
waterfowl-wise, were Buffleheads and Mallards. There were also lots of Boxelder
Bugs on at least one of the blinds in the Wetlands and a couple of Stoneflies
along the shore of the river. Here is a complete list. No number after the bird
means it was only heard:

Downy Woodpecker - 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 1
Carolina Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
Tufted Titmouse
Buffleheads - 171
Hooded Merganser - 1 female (by the Huguenot Bridge)
Greater Scaup - 1 male (also by the bridge)
American Widgeon (same location)
Carolina Wren - 1
Eastern Bluebird - 2 (see photos)
European Starlings
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1
Song Sparrow - 1 (heard others)
Canada Goose- 23
Double-crested Cormorant - 12 (most on the same group of rocks)
Ring-billed Gull - over 600
Turkey Vulture - 2
American Crow - 1
Mute Swan - 1
Belted Kingfisher - 1
Pie-billed Grebe - 7
Ring-necked Duck - 1
Mallards - 43
Great Black-backed Gull - 8
Bald Eagle - 1 adult
Blue Jay
Cedar Waxwing - 16 (see photos)
Red-winged Blackbirds
Red-shouldered Hawk
House Finches
Herring Gull - 3
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1

Good birding
