You must have our thrasher. We had a thrasher at our feeders until about a
month or two ago. Woodpeckers (red-bellied, downy) eat our suet. We now get
large numbers of juncos. They finally have arrived.
We also had a flurry at our back yard this morning, but it was a huge flock
of grackles instead. They lit in the bare trees, making them look like they
had black fruit, but they did not fly to our feeders.

Just witnessed the most interesting display "outside the kitchen window."
There was is flurry of activity in the Ivy in the backyard. Leaves were
flying around and feathers circling in the air. I expected to see a Sharpie
take off with it's kill. All went silent and there lay 2 Yellow-bellied
Sapsuckers....One had the other pinned to the ground and was pecking the
"sap" out of him. They rolled back and forth like in an Olympic wrestling
match. After a couple minutes they both flew to an Oak tree where they
chased each round and round. A little Brown Creeper zig and zagged at the
base of the tree during the calamity.
A Brown Thrasher has pretty much taken over the suet for today.
