Hello Birders,
I visited the Wetlands late morning today and then drove Riverside Drive. As
Jan previously reported there were fewer ducks than there has been.
Canvasback 1
Lesser Scaup 7
Scaup sp. 1
Ring-necked Duck c.20
Bufflehead c.100
Mallard 6
The most interesting observation was an adult male Sharp-shinned Hawk that
made several passes at a Pileated Woodpecker which was foraging/pecking on a
tree limb. The sharpie also pursued the woodpecker twice in flight. This was
quite amazing to see as the hawk was about 2/3 the size of the woodpecker.
