Our new found wetland in Chester continues to be an exciting place. As we put
the finishing touches on the Bluebird boxes today, rolled out a couple tires
and picked up some flasks of Raspberry Brandy it was easy to be distracted with
all the migration madness. Towhees and Prairie warblers are everywhere. Common
yellowthroats are "wichety-ing" throughout and the Canada Geese are so proud of
their brood.
Had a lot of "firsts" for the season today. Here's a few highlights
Osprey (with nest material)
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Bald Eagle (looking very mature)
Red-shouldered Hawk (nesting in the area)
Purple Martin (first I have seen in our neighborhood-ever)
Blue Grosbeak (FOS)
Chimney Swifts (FOS)
Tree swallow
Eastern Kingbird
Prairie Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Wood Duck
and many more
and a surprise you might have to look up....
Dolichonyx oryzivorus (1 male)
Many singing frogs, sunbathing turtles and one brown snake who slid into a
beaver lodge. Working in the garden now waiting for that first Rose Breasted
Grosbeak sneaker squeak!
