[va-richmond-general] Westmoreland trip reminder

Just a reminder about my field trip . If roads are still not clear here and up
there by Friday at 5. 00 p.m , I will make the decision switch the trip to the
alternate date of February 10th. Please call or e-mail me if you are going so,
I can contact you if the trip is moved to the 10th.I will post such notice on
the listserve too.

I truely need at least one person to bring a scope on this trip if possible.

I took a vacation day today and among other thngs went to George Washington's
Birthplace this morning and then to Colonial Beach and Strattford Hall
Plantation to check thing out. Stratfford Hall will not be part of the trip
but I ate lunch at the restraunt there. I heard a Bald Eagle screaming in the
trees right next to the George Washington's Birthplace National Monument
Visitors Center. The rangers at the center said 3 had flown around the Visitor
Center area a few times earlier in the morning.
Ruddy Ducks , about 60 Tundra Swans , Gadwall , and a few Canvasback were in
the inlet by the Visitor Ceter. From the beeach, There were 3 rafts of Scooter
of( undeterminable by binoculars species )out in the Potomac and a few
Bufflehead.

In Colonial Beach there were some Scaup on the water just a few feet from the
riverside road, several rafts of Bufflehead, a Bald Eagle perched on some old
pillings visible from a church parking lot 50 feet away, a female merganser
that dove before I could get a positive id of species and cormorants. I have a
complete driving itenerary and a town map for the Colonial Beach portion that
I will also post on the list serve in a few days for visitors to use anytime.
