Saturday I went to Westmoreland State Park and Geo Washington birth place, on
Pope's Creek; a pleasant 1 1/2 drive there & back. The state park has
suffered alot of damage, and several trails are closed. Off the beach there
were
rafts of ducks (bufflehead, ruddy, and mystery ducks--possibly lots of female
scaup) and a solitary loon.
Popes Creek is always a lovely place to visit, and now quite rowdy with
hundreds of Canada Geese and ~200 Tundra Swans. The visitors center parking
lot
and picnic area provide good viewing of the swans (if the picnic area road is
closed, go to visitors center and ask why, it could be a mistake like the day I
was there). There were several type of ducks (pair of hooded merganser, lots
of gadwalls) in the small pond on the right just b/f the beach parking lot.
Also saw an adult eagle, and lots of the usual winter lbj and lgj.
