A Pileated Woodpecker emerged from our woods yesterday and hung (clung?)
around in the trees for a while, pecking away.
We don't see them close to the house very often so it was a treat!
Happy New Year, everyone!

Hermit thrush on the forest floor along the woods trail in the woods out
back. Back up at the feeder was the usual crowd of titmice, chickadees,
cardinals, Carolina wrens, northern juncos, nuthatches and a female
downy woodpecker. What was your first bird of 2005?
