I went out before church today and finally got to see a very distant scoter
in the light rain across from the golf course. No sign of great horned or
barred owls. There was a red-shouldered hawk by the board walk and a brown
creeper near the pond. A tree has blocked part of the trail near the
kingfisher burrows, but since the trail is collapsing there it might be a
good thing if it could be left in place. The rain did not keep one poorly
trained dog owner home, unfortunately. The Coopers hawk nest is completely
gone-wonder if it came down on its own or if they would tear it out to
re-build? Mary and Larry have been hearing winter wrens lately. Along
Riverside, there was a pair of common mergansers swimming downstream just
above the emergency vehicle lot at Pony Pasture. 4 pied billed grebes-3 on
SAV and one swimming. I got home to find the yard full of birds, including
yard bird # 39, a cedar waxwing perched above a brown thrasher which was
eagerly tossing leaves and eating something that was in the leaves. It was
worth going out even with the fogged glass and rain. Have a great day!
