Today I checked the Byrd Park nest and the adult owl was sitting up tall,
but not on the edge as I would expect if the young were getting large. If I
remember correctly, her first egg was laid 1/13 and incubation is reported
to last 28 to 35 days. At the Wetlands near dusk I found one adult barred
owl in one of the nest trees along the creek. I heard another barred owl
across the park beyond the meadow. Her mate or a different pair? Time will
tell, I guess. The frogs are deafening, there was a bat hunting over near
the golf course, wood ducks were whistling as they flew overhead, a pine
warbler was singing near the boardwalk, and tiny leaves were popping out
everywhere on the brushy stuff. I saw a stick nest big enough for COHAs, so
maybe they are still around after the old nest fell apart. Loving this warm
weather!
