I'm carrying Advanced Birding next time. We can read that section together! The older I get, the more I realize just how little I really know... -----Original Message----- From: va-richmond-general-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:va-richmond-general-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lewis Barnett Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2008 3:36 PM To: va-richmond-general@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [va-richmond-general] Re: Stony Run Trail, Ashland--heard golden-winged warbler, barred owl I'm also very confused about the Waterthrush we saw at the Trolley Line. In the brief looks I got, the bird seemed very yellowish. Louisianas, in all my books, are whitish, with buff flanks, and the Northern illustrations, which claim to distinguish between "normal" birds and "paler" birds, look pretty darn identical to me (whitish), except for Sibley, which shows a bird "washed in yellow" that most closely resembles what I saw. I'm notoriously bad at remembering what a song sounded like once it's ten minutes past, but my recollection is that it was pretty musical, much more like Louisiana than Northern. The songs are quite different, so in theory it ought to be hard to confuse them, but I seem to have a talent that way. If anybody can offer clarification, I'm all ears!
