Ralph White has asked me to communicate an extraordinary opportunity to get
involved in grass-roots planning for what sounds like a marvelous public
festival.
It would star our area's most prominent geographical feature-the James
River.
James River Park is hosting a planning /brainstorming session this Wed.,
Dec.17th, from 12 -1:30 at the Park Headquarters Nature Center.
Anyone interested in helping plan this spring event is encouraged to come
and offer suggestions.
The idea is to celebrate "the return of migratory fish, as well as the birds
and mammals that eat them", with an outdoor festival.
Focus will be on emphasizing the cleanliness and health of the river.
The proposed event is tentatively scheduled to take place in early May.
Ideas currently under consideration include exhibits, bird and nature walks,
spotting scopes set up at strategic points along the river and manned by
RAS, and other interactive events.
A wish list of potential participants include Richmond Audubon Society,
Maymont, VCU, The Children's Museum, DCR, The Chesapeake Bay Foundation,
Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Department of Game and Inland
Fisheries, and other groups of like mind.
For more information, just show up at the meeting, or contact Ralph White,
the Sr. Naturalist at JRP: 646-8911.
