[va-richmond-general] Re: Should I Put up a Bluebird Box?

This website has great guidelines for putting up and maintaining
bluebird trails. http://www.virginiabluebirds.org/
If you establish a trail it is important to monitor it regularly.
Many bluebird trails become house sparrow trails at the expense of the
bluebirds if not monitored weekly.
Here on our campus we have raised several families of bluebirds and it
is wonderful to take students out and hear the students get WOWed by
their bright colors. But we have also found two families dead in the
boxes, killed by house sparrows.

From someone who has been housing bluebirds, chickadees, titmice and
flying squirrels for over decades-I can see no reason not to ever put up
a Bluebird box. If you get House wrens-that's not a bad thing. House 'em
all.
