Mary and Larry came back from Costa Rica with information on how to order
shadegrown coffee directly from Costa Rica for significantly less, including
shipping, than buying it in the natural food stores.
The website address is: http://www.cafecristina.com/home.htm.
Three roasts are available, either as whole beans or ground -- light,
medium, or dark. I ordered one
bag of light and one bag of medium (both whole beans) by calling them at the
1-800 number given on the webpage. (You can also order directly online if
you have Paypal.) The "light" roast is actually a stronger coffee than the
darker roasts -- according to the person I talked to, the better the coffee
the less it has to be roasted. I think that both light and medium are
excellent. I will probably order all light whole beans when I order a case.
If people are interested, I could bring some bags to the next RAS meeting to
sell at cost to anyone who would like to try it out.
Mary and Larry say that they came back from Costa Rica convinced that
shadegrown coffee is much better for the environment! The pamphlet that
comes with the coffee states that on their plantation, 272 species of birds
have been identified.
