[va-richmond-general] Riverside Dr. (JRPS)--redheads, canvasbacks, and the usual suspects

I was delighted to see quite a few redheads and canvasbacks mixed in with
the usual ring-necked ducks, buffleheads, CAGO, and mallards. Probably some
scaup also, but the road is blocked by construction, errands and paperwork
have to be done, and the glare was there on this sunny morning. No counting
or walking for me. One adult bald eagle was wheeling and trying to nab a
duck between dives above the Z Dam-you can follow the detour and come from
the other direction, but the majority of ducks seem to be in the zone
upriver from the construction. No pied billed grebes this time, but up to 4
are in view at one time on some mornings. They don't seem fond of watchers
and disappear early. When the quarry pond is not completely frozen there
are quite a few mallards and the occasional great blue heron on that side.
Stunning numbers of RNDU can be seen from the Huguenot Bridge some mornings
lately. Have a great day!
