Daphne,
Maybe a Rose-breasted Grosbeak? We usually start seeing them in early to
mid-April, but who knows with the warmer winters now. The extreme early date
for the Piedmont is listed as April 2. Only two winter records in VA and they
were in December. This from VA's Birdlife, an Annotated Checklist, 4th ed.
Maybe it was something else. Could you describe it?
