Received a phone call from Michelle Bullis in Newport News. She is a biologist
at Christopher Newport University and has been a back-yard birder since her
early teens. She reports seeing about fifty Bohemian Waxwings drinking from her
birdbath a couple days ago. They drank their fill, then moved on. One
unfortunate bird had a fatal encounter with a window. She has bagged and frozen
it to give to the university's ornothology program.
I don't recall any other sightings of Bohemian Waxwings in this area, but would
welcome comments from other birders.
